The educational component embodies development of the REC scientific idea in the scientific, technical and management world-outlook through accomplishing the following tasks:
-
revealing the talented youth and forming the REC students body;
-
developing the flexible system of students and post-graduates specialization in the REC research subjects that enables them and their scientific supervisors to form individual plans;
-
providing advanced language and computer trainings for students, post-graduates and young researchers;
-
establishing new specialities and specializations in accordance with the REC research plan;
-
creating new laboratory practical courses;
-
creating e-manuals agreed with the courses being taught/learned at the REC;
establishing the Young Scientists Council at the REC and ensuring its functioning.
The REC education plan provides development of educational innovative forms on the basis of integrated multilevel academic programs for training specialists (bachelor - master - postgraduate student - doctoral student) including obligatory students' participation in research projects, development of new interdisciplinary courses and programs by key experts, application of distant education technologies, carrying out conferences and organizing seminars with leading scientists.
Principal components of the education program are:
-
implementation of obtained scientific results into educational activity through development and introduction of new interdisciplinary courses and practical training programs, their inclusion to educational plans of corresponding specialties;
-
involving leading scientists of the National Academy of Sciences and key specialists of industrial enterprises into academic activity;
-
inviting foreign scientists to deliver lectures, hold seminars, schools and participate in conferences;
-
involving students and young investigators of universities in fulfillment of the REC scientific plan through course projects, graduation theses and other qualification works, postgraduate and doctoral study, organizing competitions and circles as well as through the special grants and scholarships system;
-
admitting to postgraduate and doctoral study for preparing theses on the REC scope including persons from establishments not participating in the project;
-
postgraduates and young scientists exchange with foreign universities and research centers;
-
use of the GSSRC up-to-date equipment and information databases in learning;
-
development and use of information resources on the REC activity including Internet web-sites, holding scientific and educational conferences with participation of foreign and Ukrainian partners with application of Internet facilities;
-
organizing and holding annual students' scientific conferences at the National Mining University with sections relevant to the REC activity field;
-
spreading the obtained scientific results via papers, educational text-books and methodological manuals publication, participation in international and Ukrainian conferences;
-
regular holding scientific seminars in the GSSRC laboratories with participation of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students;
-
formation of the Youth Scientific and Technical Creative Work Sector (YSTCWS).
The REC educational activity consists of two main parts:
1. Realization of the masters' educational programs in "Geology" and "Mining" in the part related to fundamental Earth sciences.
2. Organization of masters and postgraduate students' research work in the relevant field.
The conceptually new masters and postgraduates training program will be put into practice in the project framework. The program means is the interdisciplinary approach enabling integration of efforts of geologists, hydro-geologists, geophysicists, specialists in geo-mechanics, and experts in adjacent natural sciences, which are mathematicians, chemists, biologists.
The program is for students who have Bachelor's degree in Geology and Mining and meets MES standards.
-
The educational technology suggested in the REC framework is actually the program of combining research and education based on immediate participation of under- and graduate students, young investigators in research, educational and methodological works. According to this educational technology the main courses modules are
-
popularization of fundamental research in Earth sciences with regard to GTS stability during minerals extraction;
-
teaching the courses creating theoretical and conceptual ground and outlook necessary to predict after-effects of physical and chemical changes in the geological environment of GTS accompanied by transitive processes, geodynamic phenomena bringing risks for humans vital activities in and out of mining areas;
-
study of the geological system transformations into the geotechnical one, its stability, and transitive processes monitoring.
Tutoring aims at revealing the persons being able to continue their study as postgraduates. The educational and scientific seminar, where all project collaborators are represented, is getting greater importance. Its participants are masters and postgraduate students, the university and partner institutions staff.
The plan to involve foreign specialists collaborating with the NMU and partner institutions in delivering lectures for the students and postgraduates studied at the REC is developed and agreed within the project framework.
It is planned to enroll 18 students. Having finished education students obtain the master's diploma on specialties "Geophysical mineral deposits exploration", "Hydrogeology", "Geological mineral deposits exploration", "Minerals dressing", "Mining", "Environmental safety", "Mine and underground construction", 'Mineral exploration technology".
In accordance with the master curriculum, two thirds of study time is reserved for fulfillment of a master thesis by students. The thesis subjects are the part of the REC research program. The leading specialists of the NMU and other institutions taking part in the project will be involved as supervisors of master thesis works (dissertations). Master thesis (dissertations) will be fulfilled with use of materials and equipment of the REC and partner institutions.
It is planned to prepare six PhD thesis within the REC. According to the project plans postgraduates' participation in international conferences on the REC problems will be supported financially.
